Whitefish Bay – The Finale
Whitefish Bay – The Finale, Two Jittery Joes riders swept the yellow and red jerseys on the final day of Superweek, and it was an exciting finish to this 17 day series.

Australian Jonathan Cantwell, overall leader of the series since day 13, led second place Sterling Magnell of Rock Racing by three points going into stage 17. Cantwell, 13th in the race won by Columbian Jairo Perez Suarez, gained enough points to hold off Magnell, who was 25th. Cantwell had 226 points to Magnell’s 215.

“Early on in the race, I actually wanted to show the field that, you know, the yellow jersey’s not here just to sit around and play,” Cantwell, third in last year’s Superweek race said. “I just had to beat one guy. It didn’t matter if I finished first or 30th. As long as I was in front of Sterling (Magnell), the yellow jersey was mine.”

The battle for the sprint title between Chad Hartley and Rahsaan Bahati was close. Bahati missed three days of racing because he stood up in a friends wedding. He couldn’t gain any sprint points because seven riders broke away early in the race, taking with them all the maximum sprint points and lapping the field. That guaranteed Hartley the sprint title and $2,000. He won another $450 for a one-lap crowd prime, and an engraved crystal bowl,. Hartley had a 23-point margin over Bahati – 164-141.

“Yesterday (Saturday), I had pretty rough legs,” Hartley said. “I was kind of hoping for a bit of a miracle today. Did everything I could to recover overnight, and it worked out. I had a great race today.

“But yeah, that breakaway rolled, and they got to a good safe distance away, and I didn’t want the group go too slow. At 40 (laps) to go, it was game over.”

For Suarez, it was his second stage win and fifth overall for the Columbian team. In addition to the yellow jersey, Catwell received an engraved crystal bowl, and some serious cash....
